Christ the Head of the Church: A Lesson from John the Baptist

The beheading of John the Baptist is one of the most sobering accounts in Scripture. Beyond the historical tragedy, it reveals a deep spiritual warning for the Church today—one that Christlike Generation Global believes is critical for this generation to understand.

John the Baptist was imprisoned because he boldly stood for righteousness and confronted sin. He publicly opposed King Herod for marrying his brother’s wife, Herodias. Rather than repent, Herodias sought to silence the prophetic voice calling for truth.

When an opportunity presented itself, she requested the head of John the Baptist.

Not his body. His head.

Why the Head Matters in the Bible

Herodias understood something profound:

A body without a head is powerless, voiceless, and directionless.

The head represents:

  • Authority

  • Identity

  • Vision

  • Direction

Once the head is removed, the body becomes useless.

Although Scripture records that John’s head was delivered on a platter, there is no record of it being used. The separation itself was the goal.

Satan’s Strategy Against the Church

This same strategy is still at work today.

Satan’s primary tactic is not always persecution—it is separation. His goal is to disconnect the Church (the Body of Christ) from Jesus Christ (the Head).

📖 “And He is the head of the body, the church…” — Colossians 1:18

A church may still gather, sing, and serve—but without Christ at the center, it loses spiritual authority, effectiveness, and identity.

This is why many churches today prioritize motivation, culture, and personal development while drifting away from:

  • The lordship of Jesus Christ

  • Repentance and holiness

  • The cross and sound doctrine

The body remains active—but the Head is no longer leading.

Apart from Christ, the Church Can Do Nothing

Jesus Himself made this truth unmistakable:

📖 “Apart from Me you can do nothing.” — John 15:5

The Church does not produce its own power. True growth, unity, and spiritual life flow only from Christ.

📖 “They are not holding fast to the Head, from whom the whole body… grows with a growth that is from God.” — Colossians 2:19

When the Church remains connected to Jesus Christ, it grows in truth, love, holiness, and power. When it loosens its grip on Him, compromise and confusion follow.

Christlike Living in a Christless Generation

At Christlike Generation Global, our mission is to raise a generation that looks, lives, and leads like Christ. That mission cannot be fulfilled unless Jesus Christ remains the absolute center.

📖 “For no one can lay a foundation other than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.” — 1 Corinthians 3:11

Our identity, authority, and purpose are found in Christ alone. Any ministry, church, or believer that disconnects from Him loses its foundation.

A Call to the Global Church

The Church must be spiritually alert. Satan’s schemes are often subtle—wrapped in relevance, popularity, or cultural acceptance. But anything that removes Jesus Christ from the center is a direct attack on the Body.

Never allow the Head to be separated from the Body.

Our life is in Christ.

Our strength is in Christ.

Our identity is in Christ.

Without Him, we cannot stand.
